Glen Cowley

Glen Cowley has been a freelance travel writer since 1994 whose interest in geography, history and sport has been parlayed into over fifty published articles and  three books.

An avowed Europhile his articles have reflected journeys to Wales, England, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Greece, Switzerland,  Germany, France and the Netherlands. Circumstances and interest have also led to articles centred in British Columbia, Alberta, Washington State, New Hampshire, Maine and New Mexico. The historical perspective is seldom far removed from his work.

Broader interests are reflected in articles on the Esquimalt & Nanaimo Railway, the history of French influence in British Columbia and sport. The latter two have resulted in two published hockey books (Wind and Ice (100 years of Kamloops hockey history) and The Seventh Man (the history of the Kamloops Blazers junior hockey franchise)) and a translated article printed in booklet form entitled Le Fait Francais en Columbie-Britannique.

Fascinated by the interconnectedness of people and places in both time and space his features seek the legacies, lessons and promise so well mirrored but not always so well heeded.

Well traveled in both Canada and Europe he and his wife now call Chemainus, on Vancouver Island,  home. Retired from many years in the social service field he savours the ability to pursue his writing interests at leisure.

A recent six week sojourn in southern France has provided ample fodder for a wealth of articles on that most compelling region. Features on Provencal bull fighting where the bull is the star and lives to perform another day,  pilgrimages to locales famed for the legacies of renowned artists who left their highly visible  mark and the Empire of Nimes; how this ancient city can be the hub of a two week southern France adventure.
