Buzz September 2013

Reminder

At the upcoming November AGM, our Association must choose the president (1 year); vice president (two years); treasurer (1 year) and secretary (2years); Industry Relations (2 years) to continue along a steady course. These five positions can be rewarding opportunities for ready and willing members. Some may be readily filled. Yet the interim positions of president and treasurer create an unusually challenging year regarding Board vacancies. Please consider volunteering for a Board position! Contact millikan@nullaxion.net for further info.

Julie H. Ferguson’s husband whisked her away by via sea plane for her birthday to an unknown destination in August — turned out to be Galiano Inn and Spa at Sturdies Bay—for five days of sheer heaven. She thrived on the views, the local produce, the people, and the pampering. For more about her visit, please see her travelog at http:/stampsinmypassport.blogspot.com.  Julie is off to Ottawa to visit family, the Canadian War Museum, and the Department of National Defence for research for the re-release of her first book, Through a Canadian Periscope to celebrate the Canadian Submarine Service’s centenary in 2014. She also hopes to enjoy a two-day cruise on the Rideau Canal’s more countryside reaches. She also very proud to announce that two participants in her Port Moody Writers’ Group are finalists in Literary Writes (Federation of BC Writers contest). http://beaconlit.blogspot.com

Irene Butler had only to mention another visit to Canada’s Dead Sea for her husband Rick to acquiesce. Check out them bobbing like corks http://www.whattravelwriterssay.com/watroussaskbutler.html. See how the lava churns and how they sizzle in Seattle. http://www.globaltrekkers.ca/4646/seattle-mount-st-helens-wa/. Do you love Grizzlies and Geysers…check this out! http://www.globaltrekkers.ca/4732/yellowstone-national-park/ . Irene and Rick are presently hoisting a single malt in Scotland, and will then go onto Wales and Ireland for the whole month of September.  It will be their first time to this trio of countries.

Darlene Foster will be signing all three of her travel/adventure books at Black Bond Books in Ladner, September 15 from 1 – 3 pm.  Stop in and say Hello. Here is what one 5 star review wrote about her latest book: Amanda in England: The Missing Novel is a delightful romp through modern-day London. I highly recommend it for readers in late elementary school or for anyone who loves solving playful mysteries that do not reveal their secrets easily. Joei Carlton Hossack’s busy summer is almost at an end.  She has converted all of her books – except Everyone’s Dream, Everyone’s Nightmare, to e-books and to date all are available on Amazon for the Kindle and within the next week or so all will be available for all the other formats. Everyone’s Dream Everyone’s Nightmare will be rewritten and updated and will be available as an e-book sometime in 2014.

September will be busy as well but (hopefully) a lot more fun.  She will be the speaker at a camping rally in Hope, British Columbia from the 9th to the 11th of September and on September 13th she leaves on her first cruise – to Alaska. www.joeicarlton.com
