September 2015 BCATW Buzz

Hello Fellow Travellers –

Ruth Kozak PyramidsI’ll be away for six weeks exploring new places in UK, Spain and Greece and gathering new story material.  I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and also have new stories to write.

We will be planning our AGM once I am back on Oct 11, and will notify everyone in good time. Meanwhile, our VP Baila Lazarus is working on changes in the BCATW constitution. I do hope some of you were able to contribute your thoughts and ideas on this. It was necessary to update the constitution because now we have included travel bloggers, travel memoir writers and travel photographers and to make the rules for membership clearer.

I look forward to seeing you at in the Fall at our AGM.  Meanwhile, keep traveling and writing!

Sincerely,
Ruth Kozak, President BCATW

It has been a busy and satisfying summer for Jett & Kathryn Britnell. In July the formally launched their new travel blog, “The Nomadic Tribes – Travel & Living The Life Fantastic.” Over this short span of time they have grown from zero to over 2,100 followers on Twitter, and they continue to grow on Facebook, Instagram, etc. Their website also won their first blog award, despite the fact that this is all still a work in progress with several areas of the website still needing to have content added. Check them out at http://www.thenomadictribes.com and give them a follow in social media.Britnell Interview 700px

Another travel blog called Imagineth has just posted a Q&A profile on Jett & Kathryn in their “Interview with THE globetrotters” portion of their website.

Lastly, Jett had one of his Adams River sockeye salmon images & narrative used as the “Parting Shot” in the new issue of Alert Diver Magazine.

Baila Lazarus had a couple of fabulous trips up the Sunshine Coast and to Whistler on behalf of Meeting Places magazine. She took a couple of days in Powell River to poke around the old historic Townsite near the Catalyst paper mill, and stop in to discuss history with the manager of the Patricia Theatre – the longest running movie theatre in Canada. Many of the buildings in this part of town have been kept in original condition and provide for some stunning backdrops to community events and private functions. Powell River is well off the beaten track but is attracting many young couples with low housing prices. There’s even rumours a medicinal grow-op is due to open right by the Catalyst mill.

After returning from the Sunshine Coast, Baila headed for Whistler, where she squeezed in six back-to-back interviews in one day with different venue operators for a special feature for Meeting Places. Hosted by the Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa, she was treated to a special breakfast on the mezzanine of the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, toured the Conference Centre and Fairmont Chateau Whistler, got an insider look at the Sliding Centre (she didn’t have time to do the bobsled run but will return in the winter when the sleds get up to 130 kph) and was the first to interview Toptable president Michael Doyle about a new restaurant (Bar Oso) and meeting space  (The Cellar) opening in the old Savage Beagle nightclub. Baila has nothing but praise for Tourism Whistler for putting the trip together in eight days when they usually require three weeks’ notice.
