Heather Lea

face1My name is Heather Lea and I’ve been freelance writing ever since cockily submitting my first-ever piece of writing to a small town newspaper and finding it published. That was over 17 years ago and the subsequent years of travelling to 23 countries filled my head with images and words I was bursting at the seams to communicate. In the barely functioning Internet cafes of third world countries I composed stories of my travels and sent them to friends and family. It was they who helped me gain the confidence to pursue writing more seriously. I submitted travel, humour and outdoor articles to similarly-themed magazines and have had over 45 stories and articles published thus far. In 2004 I started an arts, culture and lifestyles magazine in Revelstoke, B.C., where I lived at the time. I continue to run Reved Quarterly today from my studio in Vancouver. This business of publishing has been the brightest star in my writing career and I’m unabashedly proud to have this experience in my life. At the moment I am working on a piece about avalanches in Canada for Canadian Geographic. My most challenging project to-date, working on this 14-page story fills me with a passion and motivation I could only dream possible when envisioning myself as a writer.
