President’s Message:
Happy fall and welcome to the November 2021 BCATW Buzz.
Travel is back and as more countries reopens for tourism, we all know that qualified travel story tellers will be in great demand.
BCATW is back with its education series so we invite you to join our organization to develop your travel writing skills and build relationships with your peers.
We encourage you to apply for BCATW membership and join a group of individuals that are going places very soon. Our $72 annual membership fee is a small investment in your travel writing career. As a member, you will have access to education workshops such as writing skills, personal branding, and how to pitch editors.
Like many of you, I have been focused on my travel writing closer to home this year. I recently crafted a travel story titled “The great Porsche escape from Sun Peaks” which was published in the fall edition of Timberline, Porsche Club of America – Canada West Region magazine.
So I am continually developing travel story angles and pitching both print and online media platforms, plus scheduling my travel calendar for next year. What about you?

“A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words”… Fact or Fiction?

Brian K Smith, MPA, will take us to many locations around the world, and explain how he was able to capture unique and intimate pictures, that are the backbone to writing an engaging story of travel adventure. Camara size (iPhone to Pro) is not the limitation, it’s the way you approach an environment and the people that live there. He will explore unique ways that you can get the total picture that will support your amazing written story. As an added bonus – Brian will offer, as added value, the first 10 BCATW members that sign up for his presentation with a personal review of up to 5 of your favourite travel photos.
Brian is BCATW Vice President and Professional Photographers of B.C. Photographer of the Year 2020. He also is a Master of Photographic Arts with PPOC (including 3 Accreditations). He has been invited many times to lecture and participate in International Photography Exhibitions in China. Brian will lead a 16-day photographic tour of India in 2022.
