April 2022 BCATW BuzzPresident’s Message: Canada lifts pre-entry test

You could feel the joy among Canadians when the pre-entry test was lifted on April 1st, along with a recent CDC report that two dozen travel destinations see declining risk levels. COVID has not gone away, but the hope is that we can learn to manage the risks and experience a summer travel season for our local businesses.

Later this month, I will be attending TBEX in Tri Cities, Washington State. A two-day travel bloggers conference filled with blogging workshops, local tours and FAMS. I will share my experience with you all upon my return and hope this event will kick start my writing this year.

Next week, we are privileged to have Joe Wiebe presenting “So you want to be a beer writer” workshop. Joe will be presenting a lively and interest talk on the beer scene and how you can become part of the beverage writing scene. Details are available at Meet-up and members can register by contacting myself directly.

See at the workshop.

BCATW Workshop: So you want to be a beer writer

Presented by Joe Wiebe

Non-members register on Meet-up: $20

Joe Wiebe, the “Thirsty Writer,” is a co-founder and the Beer Director of Victoria Beer Week, which takes place annually in early March (April 1-9 this year because of omicron!). Joe also helped co-found the BC Ale Trail, for which he is the Content Manager.

Joe is also the author of Craft Beer Revolution: The Insider’s Guide to B.C. Breweries, the definitive guidebook to British Columbia’s burgeoning craft beer industry, which was a B.C. bestseller in 2013 and won the Gourmand Award for Best Beer Book in Canada. A second edition was released in 2015.

The BC Ale Trail published blogs three or four times a month and we are always on the lookout for writers who can bring a unique spin to a story that somehow involves craft beer. We also publish “Road Trip Tasting Notes” which are longer-form photo-essays that have a unique mapping component that allows the reader to follow along with the story.

Join us to hear how you can write beer writing travel stories.
