President’s Message: Canadian travellers are on the move

Last month, I was transferring at SeaTac domestic terminal and it was very busy. Families, young and old were on the move. CAA reports that the majority of Canadians are undeterred with high gas prices and will take vacations this summer.

As the world begins to open, there are certainly opportunities for us as travel writers. This month’s workshop “So you want to be a Beer writer” is schedule on Wednesday. Details are below and I’m confident our guest speaker will deliver a great workshop.

For June, we are considering an in-person social event, stay tune for more details.

BCATW Workshop: So you want to be a beer writer

Wednesday, May 18, 2022
Presented by Joe Wiebe
BCATW Members: $10, register by contacting edward@nullstyledrama.com
Non-members: $20 register on Meet-up.

Joe Wiebe, the “Thirsty Writer,” is a co-founder and the Beer Director of Victoria Beer Week, which takes place annually in early March (April 1-9 this year because of omicron!). Joe also helped co-found the BC Ale Trail, for which he is the Content Manager.

Joe is also the author of Craft Beer Revolution: The Insider’s Guide to B.C. Breweries, the definitive guidebook to British Columbia’s burgeoning craft beer industry, which was a B.C. bestseller in 2013 and won the Gourmand Award for Best Beer Book in Canada. A second edition was released in 2015.

The BC Ale Trail published blogs three or four times a month and we are always on the lookout for writers who can bring a unique spin to a story that somehow involves craft beer. We also publish “Road Trip Tasting Notes” which are longer-form photo-essays that have a unique mapping component that allows the reader to follow along with the story.

Join us to hear how you can write beer writing travel stories.
