President’s Message

Dear Members, This year has drawn to a close and we look forward to just as successful a year ahead. Plans will be made for the March Symposium and we encourage members to participate and offer their thoughts and ideas as we organize this. We’re looking forward to more involvement in the organization and chances to share our travel stories and adventures. Remember, to keep your membership active, you should be submitting and publishing travel stories throughout the year. Rick Green Shenzhen Beer Festival

World’s Longest Pub Crawl?

Rick Green returned from southern China at the end of November after spending seven weeks visiting brewpubs and taprooms in 30 cities for his forthcoming guidebook to Chinese craft breweries. Starting in Shanghai and ending in Sanya, he became very familiar with high-speed train travel and Chinese budget hotels. Trip highlights were volunteering at a three-day craft beer festival in Shenzhen, meeting punk rock legend, Wuwei, in Yangshuo, and eating Hainan Chicken in Haikou, Hainan. To complete his research, Rick’s next trips will be to northern China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Engaging with Destination Marketing Organizations

While on assignment at Eco Fashion Week Australia in Port Douglas, Edward Quan was not going to allow this exceptional visit pass him by. Each evening, he was seated in the runway front row writing on sustainable fashion designer looks, while during the day he was a guest of Tourism Port Douglas Daintree experiencing their magnificent destination. “When their tourism organization heard of my upcoming visit, they graciously rolled out their famous Aussie hospitality,” stated Edward Quan. During his trip they hosted three days of touring; snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef, a private tour of the Mossman Gorge Centre located at the southern end of the Daintree Rainforest and an Outback Tasting Adventure covering local culinary cuisine, wines and spirits.
